Pazzini has enjoyed his first full season at Fiorentina despite living largely in the shadow of Luca Toni and his extraordinary goalscoring feats.

But the former Atalanta striker claims that, although the Viola are currently riding high in Serie A, no-one at the club is talking about Europe - their first objective is a far more modest cause.

"We’re aware that we’re doing well," he said. "Occasionally we mention the fact that we’re in second place, but the positive thing is that we talk about how far ahead of the teams behind we are, not those in front of us.

"Our first goal is salvation," he added. "Then, obviously, the sooner we do that we can think about achieving other things – nobody has even mentioned the Champions League."

The Gigliati are 10 points behind League leaders Juventus at present and were unlucky not to come away from their recent match with the Bianconeri with a share of the spoils.

But perhaps it is their level-headed attitude that permitted them to bounce back from that defeat with a win over Treviso on Saturday night.

This weekend they have a tricky trip to Tuscan neighbours Empoli to negotiate, but Pazzini is confident the Viola can maintain their momentum against their local rivals.

"It will be a tough match," added the talented 21-year-old. "Until recently they were one of the revelation sides. Then they suffered four defeats in a row and so they want to stop the rot, but I think we are more motivated than them and we want all three points."</P>
