"Against European powers like Turkey and Ukraine, they showed great mental strength and patience that allowed them to put their technique and tactics to use," Zhang Ning told FIFA.com.

The coach himself will do his bit by trying to shield them from pressure. "They are not fully matured mentally and need a lot of encouragement," he said.

We have to play as a team to win."

"They are a great team and have won this event twice before. But at this age level no team are a dominant power or outright underdogs. Every side have a chance if they play to the best of their ability.

Under the scorching sun that produces an average summer temperature of 35 degrees, China's teenagers have been hard at work at a training camp at the Xianghe Football Centre. Their preparations began in mid-July and have included two friendly matches against Uzbekistan, which brought a 2-0 victory and goalless draw.
